Gerard Brennan of Edmonstown, Ardee, was a person who made life not only better for his family but also his local church and the wider community. He died peacefully in Beaumont Hospital on 9 May.

As a leader in the community, Gerry was instrumental in the formation of the local Reaghstown/Tallanstown branch of the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA), serving as its secretary for 42 years, retiring in 2010. He also served as both chairman and honorary president of the local GAA club Westerns GFC.

At his funeral mass, a joint guard of honour was provided by members of the Westerns, and local branches of the IFA and Fine Gael. Personal gifts of the Irish Farmers Journal, a sheaf of wheat, Pioneer pin, dancing timetable and a tractor that symbolised his life were taken to the altar.

His passing is deeply regretted by wife Mary (nee McMahon), daughter Catherine, sons Gerard, Michael, and Jonathan and extended family.
