Generally speaking, the number of farms offered for sale tends to slow down as the summer approaches but this doesn’t seem to be the case this year with a notable number of auctions scheduled to take place in July.

Among these are some fine sizeable properties, such as a 176-acre non-residential farm situated at Forenaughts Great, Furness, Naas, Co Kildare. Brought to the market by Jordan Auctioneers, Newbridge, the property has a prime location, about half a mile from Kill and the M7 Dublin/Cork motorway, and three miles from Naas, while it also features some of the best land in Co Kildare.

It goes under the hammer on 17 July in the Killashee House Hotel, Naas, at 3pm and according to auctioneer Paddy Jordan, it “would be ideally suited to a dairy farm or a stud farm”.

Set out in one 176-acre block, the farm is laid out in seven fields that are accessed from a central farm roadway. With the exception of 40 acres under tillage, the land is mostly under permanent pasture and is classified under the Elton series of soils for Co Kildare, which are derived from limestone with a small mix of shale and sandstone. It comes with cattle accommodation for 150 animals to include two covered silage pits with a slatted lean-to on either side, a six-bay hayshed and a large machinery/grain store.

In addition to this, there is almost a mile of road frontage and entitlements to the value of circa €27,000.

Punchestown and Goffs bloodstock sales are about five minutes’ drive away while some of the studs in the vicinity include Palmerstown, Broguestown and Forenaughts. The property is guided at €12,000/acre or circa €2.1m.

2.7-acre site near Newcastle, Dublin

Meanwhile, the same agent is handling the sale of a small 2.7-acre site situated at Newcastle, Co Dublin, just 300 metres from Baldonnell Business Park. With frontage onto a local road and close to the Kingswood/Citywest interchange, the property is scheduled to be auctioned on 4 July at 3pm in the Keadeen Hotel, Newbridge. A guide price of €20,000 is quoted.

28 acres near Naas

On the same day, a 28-acre parcel of land situated at Osberstown, Naas, Co Kildare, will also go under the hammer. In grass, the land comes with frontage to two roads and at one stage had planning for a 374,000 square feet office and industrial scheme. Adjoining Osberstown Business Park, the property is just a mile and a half from Naas and is guided at €350,000.

16 acres at Rathcoole

The final parcel to go to auction on 4 July in the Keadeen Hotel is a 16-acre field located at Rathcoole, Co Dublin. With frontage to the N7 (exit 4) and to the Newcastle road, the property may offer some long-term potential and is guided at €200,000. All three are being handled by Jordan Auctioneers, Newbridge.
