Fox & Gallagher has a pair of properties at opposite ends of north Mayo on the market at present and interest is reported to be strong in both to date.

The larger of the two is a residential farm of 85ac at Ballybroney, Killala. A fragmented farm, it’s available in its entire or in lots and it sells by public auction in late September.

On two of the lots there are vacant cottages which should qualify for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Grant.

Lot 1 contains 14.6ac that is split into two long strips of good, self-draining land. On the larger of the two there is a cottage with an electricity connection and stone outbuildings. Elevated land with a high-standard of fencing, is offered in Lot 2. There is 25.5ac in this lot that requires some maintenance work but benefits from four access points.

The farmyard at Ballybroney has a mix of old and modern farm buildings are offered in Lot 3.

The balance of the land, 44.4ac is listed as Lot 3, and this contains a farmyard with some modern buildings, including a slatted shed and American style horse boxes.

This Mayo farm is 10 minutes’ drive from Killala and about 13km north of Ballina. Guided at €750,000, the auction takes place at 3pm on Friday 26 September in the Merry Monk, Ballina.

Moving to the extreme northwest corner of the county, the Ballina-based auctioneers also has another property for sale, this time by private treaty.

Predominantly commonage, the 67.8ac holding at Stonefield, near the village of Carrowteige, is offered in two lots.

Lot 1 comprises of 7.6ac in one long grassland strip that overlooks the Atlantic, it has frontage on to two roads.

There is a large slatted shed in the yard.

The balance of the land is offered in Lot 2 and comprises of approximately 60.2ac of two nearby commonages. The larger of the two is directly north of the grassland holding, while the smaller commonage holding is a short distance to the south. Lot 2 has a guide of €54,000, according to Fox & Gallagher.
