The last of the locally renowned Markree Demesne, Markree, Co Sligo, is set to go under the hammer at the end of the month.
It’s understood that Markree Castle Hotel was sold earlier this year and now the remaining 263 acres is up for sale.
With the exception of 64 acres of woodland situated a short distance away, the remaining 209.5 acres is located in the grounds of Markree Castle Hotel and is laid out in one big block. In total, there are circa 100 acres of grazing ground, 56 acres of forestry (scotch pine and oak), 13.83 acres of clear felled land ready for reforestation, and 92.7 acres of old woodland. Laid out in just four big paddocks, the circa 100 acres of grazing ground is currently sporting a crop of meadow.
Reported to be “good quality”, the land is rolling and is dotted with beautiful mature hardwood trees.
The sale also includes a traditional range of farm buildings such as haysheds and loose-bedded sheds. Then on 2 July at 3pm in the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar, a 118-acre residential farm situated at Kilgawny, Moyvore, Mullingar, will go under the hammer.
