There are just two spring wheat varieties on the Department of Agriculture's recommended list this year – KWS Helium and WPB Duncan. Both are fully recommended. KWS Fixum is no longer on the list, see table 1.
WPB Duncan is estimated to take up about 77% of the seed availability for 2026, along with Helium at 16% and Frigg at 7%. Frigg is in seed production, but the number may seem high due to the small area of spring wheat.
WPB Duncan has the highest yield on the list. It has a slightly better disease resistance profile. KWS Helium is an early-ripening variety, but both varieties score a seven for resistance to sprouting. KWS Helium has a higher protein content and KPH score.
