The Irish Farmers Journal understands Nestlé has scrapped plans to build an infant formula plant in Ireland. The company had been in talks with a number of Irish stakeholders to build an infant formula plant at a greenfield site in Belview, Co Kilkenny. The plant would have been next to Glanbia’s facility.

However, the plans have now been mothballed primarily due to the uncertainties created by the UK’s vote to leave the EU. It is understood the plant that Nestlé intended to build would be to backfill supply to the UK market.

The risk of a changing trade relationship between the UK and the EU has become too great for Nestlé to proceed.
