On Wednesday evening, Mohill Mart played host to its show and sale of weanling bulls, where over 300 bulls went under the hammer, achieving a clearance of 95%. The bulk of the sale was made up of 180 bulls weighing between 300kg and 400kg. MartBids' analysis shows these bulls averaged €5.33/kg, with the top third achieving an impressive average of €5.97/kg, while the bottom third made €4.77/kg.

While the rule of thumb is lighter weanlings will outperform the heavier ones on a price per kilo, weanlings weighing between 200kg and 300kg sold for between 5c/kg and 10c/kg behind those weighing between 300kg and 400kg. These 200kg to 300kg bulls made up 18% of the bulls on offer and sold at an average of €5.27/kg, while the top third sold for €5.93/kg.

There were 40 bulls weighing between 400kg and 450kg on offer and these bulls averaged out at €5.01/kg. The bottom third of bulls sold for €4.41/kg while the top third averaged €5.64/kg, showing the continued demand for lighter cattle weighing in the 300kg-to-400kg weight bracket. A small number of bulls weighed over 450kg and these averaged out at €4.75/kg.
