In Tuesdays general cattle sale in Ardee Livestock sales, it saw over 60 cattle sell to a 100% clearance. The sale consisted of all types of cattle with bullocks making up the biggest portion of entries.

Cull cows remain a steady trade all years with cows selling to a top call of €3,090 for a Charolais cow weighing 880kg. Quality continental cows continue to sell well, with over €3.50/kg achieved. Heavier cows weighing over 700kg are meeting the best trade with buyers seeking cows for shorter finishing time. Grass buyers are still active for store cows however the reduced grass growth is having a slight effect on trade. Friesian-cull cows sell from €2.50/kg upwards depending on flesh cover and quality.

The trade for store cattle is holding steady despite the lack of grass growth in the area. Quality and age are dictating what farmers will get with prices varying from €2.90/kg up to €4.50/kg. Younger lighter store cattle weighing under 400kg continue to sell well with over €4/kg to be got for both suckler and well-bred dairy-cross lots.

A big entry of Belgian Blue-cross bulls and bullocks born in spring 2025 from the one seller sold from €1,200 up to €1,900 with buyers opting to choose the bullocks over the bulls. These bullocks generally crossed the €3.50/kg mark with the bulls selling from €3.20/kg upwards.

A smaller entry of bulls compared to bullocks with bulls selling from €2.90/kg for more dairy bred lots up to €3.50/kg for better quality lots. Not many weanlings on offer with the bulk of weanling expected to appear from September on-wards.

Angus-cross cattle continue to remain a steady trade with store cattle weighing between 400kg and 500kg selling from €3.50/kg upwards with better quality suckler bred lots able to cross the €4/kg mark.

Heifers met a solid trade for what was on over with from €3.20/kg up to €3.80/kg paid for heifers on the day. Buyers opting for younger heifers for longer keep weighing from 350kg to 500kg the most sought after. A number of larger feeders picking up the heavier heifers these sold from €3.30/kg up to €3.50/kg.
