There was a brilliant trade for an entry of approximately 600 at last week’s show and sale of spring-born weanlings.
Starting with the lightest heifers first, MartBids analysis shows the top third of heifers averaging at €6.27/kg, with the average price at €5.68/kg and the bottom third at €4.93/kg.
Heifers weighing 300kg to 400kg averaged just shy of €6/kg for the top third, with the average price at €5.37/kg and the bottom third at €4.79/kg.
Farmers, specialist finishers and live exporters were all active for bulls.
About 60% of bulls weighed from 300kg to 400kg, with the top third of bulls selling for €6.18/kg on average.
The average price was €5.52/kg, while the bottom third hit €4.78/kg.

The top third of bulls weighing from 200kg to 300kg averaged just 15c/kg short of €7/kg, with the average at €5.52/kg and bottom third at €4.78/kg.
The sharp trade followed on to Friday’s cattle sale, where average prices for bullocks weighing upwards of 500kg were up by 27c/kg to 37c/kg, with agents displaying an insatiable appetite for any cattle suitable for slaughter.
Bullocks weighing 600kg-plus sold for €4.41/kg on average, with the top third at €4.79/kg and rising above €5/kg for the highest-quality lots.
