Irish riders took a bonanza of prizes over the five days of international jumping. Wednesday’s Avery Crest Speed Stakes was won by Cameron Hanley on Newton du Haut Bois ahead of Thomas Ryan and Michael Duffy. Darragh Kenny followed on with a win on Picolo in the Irish Sports Council Classic. Michael Duffy took it up in the Talbot Hotel Speed Derby to win on Dermot Forde’s Westland Ruby. Conor Swail and Bertram Allen took second and third behind Kent Farrington of USA in the TRI Speed, while Thomas Ryan slotted into second behind Jessica Springsteen in Thursday evening’s Ballsbridge Hotel Stakes.
Following Friday’s disappointing Aga Khan, Billy Twomey boosted Irish spirits once more with a win on Royale du Rouet in the Accumulator. Billy and Quick Vainqueur then shared first in an exciting Land Rover Puissance along with Michael Hutchinson on Accord 3.
Saturday’s JLT Stakes went to Germany’s Daniel Dreusser. Then from a second-to-go draw, Capt Michael Kelly and the great Cruising mare Mo Chroi dominated the Bewley’s Hotel Speed Championship on Sunday to win at age 17 in this her last competition. Recovered from her Aga Khan elimination, Loughview Lou Lou was second in that speed contest for Dermott Lennon.
