Tractor registrations in the UK in 2016 topped 12,025, according to the Agricultural Engineers Association.

John Deere claimed top spot, with 3,350 tractors registered. This was 27.9% of the total which included compact tractors less than 50hp and agricultural tractors above 50hp.

Following closely behind was CNH (Case New Holland) with 3,117 tractors amounting to 25.9% market share. A total of 2,110 New Holland tractors were registered (17.5% market share), which also includes Steyr, and 1,007 Case IH tractors registered (8.4%).

These top three manufacturers have almost 54% market share of all tractors registered in the UK. The AGCO brand accounts for just under a quarter of total market share at 22.5%, with 2,705 tractors registered. This group of brands includes Massey Ferguson, Fendt, Valtra and Challenger.

Respective market share for these individual brands is 11.6%, 7.0%, 3.6% and 0.4%.

Since last year, the Challenger brand has been sold in Europe in Fendt colours. Interestingly, a brand that is making positive inroads in the UK is Kubota with 852 units registered and a 7.1% market share.

The German manufacturer Claas took eighth position of individual brands with 667 (5.5%) tractors registered followed closely by SDF with 331 (2.8%) registered. The remaining 1,003 registrations, which accounts for 8.3% of total registrations, was made up of Agri-Argo group which includes McCormick and Landini, JCB Zetor and others.
