Another exhibit attracting considerable interest within the Innovation Arena was the WireLessCam, a wireless, battery-powered camera system designed to improve farm safety. The cordless camera, which requires no installation, was exhibited by 16-year-old secondary school student Blake McVicar from Co Monaghan, who was also a finalist in the Young Innovator of the Year competition.

The WireLessCam features a rechargeable battery and magnetic mount, for quick fitting to various machines. Using a dedicated smartphone app, the live camera feed is transmitted directly to the operator’s phone, eliminating the need for a separate monitor. McVicar developed the system after identifying poor visibility when reversing his tractor and slurry tanker as a significant safety concern. His aim was to create a robust camera solution that could be easily transferred between machines, while also offering the flexibility to be mounted wherever required.

Another common use for the WireLessCam according to McVicar is for monitoring livestock, particularly during transport. With the aim of taking a more sustainable approach, the unit contains a repurposed battery, which is charged via the standard 230V mains supply. The WireLessCam is priced at €150, including VAT and delivery.
