On Wednesday 30 December, Michael Doyle Auctions held a clearance machinery auction at Tankardstown, Tullow, Co Carlow. The auction consisted of over 185 entries, all of which were from local farmers.
Bidding took place online via the Marteye app. This was Doyle’s second completely online auction. Michael explained that the auction saw over 520 registered bidders, with a total of over 4,000 onlookers tuning in online. Phone bidding also played a role at the auction.
Similar to his last auction in early December, Michael scheduled the auction to kick off at 7pm in the evening to try to accommodate those who can’t make a midday auction. This is a move which he claims has worked very well in the last two auctions and is one he intends to replicate in future. His next auction is set to take place on Friday 29 January.
The lots on offer included a selection of tractors, farm machinery, tools, plant and livestock equipment. A 90% clearance rate was observed. Commission was charged at a rate of 10% for items sold below €1,000 and 5% for items sold above €1,000.
