Charolais breeders from across Ireland are poised for Saturday's Irish Charolais Cattle Society Elite heifer show and sale and national calf show and sale at the showgrounds in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Over 200 calves are booked in for this year's blockbuster calf show, which will be followed by the sale of 32 bull calves, 45 heifer calves, 12 maiden heifers and five in-calf heifers.

Up for grabs are many of the rising stars from this year's show circuit.

Breeders from across the UK and Europe are expected to attend this year's event, following the success of some of last year's calves in the UK this summer.

Overseas success

To the forefront of this success was Larahill Violet ET, who was purchased at the 2025 event for the joint highest price of €15,500 by the Alford family in Devon.

As well as picking up numerous major breed championships this summer, she also claimed the overall junior beef interbreed champion at the prestigious Royal Highland Show in June before going on to win the National Charolais Show championship at the Great Yorkshire Show in July.

Judging at the showgrounds in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday 19 September will commence at 9.30 am followed by the sale at 1 pm, ringside and online through MartBids.
