Bluetongue restrictions put in place across the UK resulted in a sticky trade at the 2025 Charollais Sheep Society premier sale at Worchester on Saturday 5 July. However, there was still a willingness from pedigree breeders to spend on some of the top lots. This resulted in a top price of 10,000gns (€12,187).
Achieving that price was Cavick Da Vinci Code from Norfolk couple, Mitchel and Elizabeth Britten.
This quality lamb also performed extremely well in the pre-sale show, picking up reserve overall champion under the eye of judge Richard Geldard from Cumbria.
The Springhill Butterfly Effect-sired lamb was sold in a four-way split to the Robleston, Glyn Coch, Moelfryn and Wernfawr flocks in Wales.

The next-highest price of 6,000gns (€7,315) was obtained by a strong ram lamb from the well-known Ingram family of the Logie Durno flock. This lamb was sired by Moelfryn Corker and out of a Loanhead Talisman daughter. Picking up this lamb was Tom Newth from Somerset.
Shearling rams
Also selling for 6,000gns was the top-priced shearling ram from Carmarthenshire-based breeder Adrian Davies. Glyn Coch Cash is King was a son of Moelfryn Bouncer and a Wedderburn female by Wrenvale Mad 4 Ewe. Purchasing this shearling ram was Geoff Biddulph from Cheshire.
Following on from that, selling for 4,500gns (€5,485) was the third-prizewinning shearling ram, Thackwood Crazy Clayton from Jonathan Wales from Cumbria. The Thackwood Bangkok son was picked up by Gwyn and Gail Jones of the Springfield flock.

Next to the sales ring was the pre-sale overall champion, Wattwood Commander from Joe Wales. The champion shearling ram sold for 4,000gns (€4,873) to the Probert family’s Mortimer flock. This upstanding ram was also sired by Thackwood Bangkok and out of a Wattwood ewe by Loanhead Unstoppable.
Top-priced females
Topping the female consignment was Thackwood Crystal, the female champion from Jonathan Wales.
This Boyo Vancouver-sired shearling ewe sold for 1,600gns (€1,949) to J Lewis from Cheshire.
