Jessica Wilson enjoyed a bumper day at the Irish Blue Texel Sheep Society's annual premier show and sale, being crowned overall Blue Texel champion with her ewe lamb Farmview Klover, which was also female champion.

Wilson then went on to gain the joint-top Blue Texel sale price of €1,800 with Farmview Krown Jewel, a son of Sams Houdini.

The event at Carrick-on-Shannon showgrounds took place on Saturday, with Gerald Travers from Northern Ireland judging the pre-sale show.

Nigel Hogan’s Diamond Kelso was Travers' pick of the males, taking home the male champion ticket, also realising €1,800 in the sale ring.

The son of Werbrouck G550, a Belgian import, it sold to Aaron Burke, Co Galway.

Valleyview Jack in the Box, sired by Derg Jaguar, from Clive Barnett, Co Donegal, sold to Nigel Flanagan Keady from Co Armagh for €1,200.

Female trade

Topping the female trade was reserve overall show champion, a daughter of Knockmult Kaiser Chief, Diamond Kissable from Nigel Hogan, which made €1,020.

Overall champion Farmview Klover from Jessica Wilson reached €880.

Nigel Hogan saw double success in the Dassenkop ring with his shearling ram Diamond Joyce Country crowned overall champion and his ram lamb Diamond Kauto Star taking reserve overall champion.

Hogan’s success continued into the sales ring, topping the Dassenkop trade with Diamond Jungle Joe, sired by Bodoney Equalizer, which realised €2,450 and heads to Wales.

Jason Gilmour also enjoyed success in the Dassenkop ring, taking female champion with Corravilla 0073.

The Irish Blue Texel Sheep Society thanked Midland and Western for hosting the event, Natural Nutrition for its continued support and also Agri Images for photography on the day.
