Last weekend’s Scot’s visitation was a resounding success. We toured around Donegal and Tyrone and I took the team to all of my favourite local spots.

I felt like I blinked and I was no sooner returning to the airport and waving goodbye but thankfully the world has been put to rights once again.

Within our group of friends, we all work within agriculture in some way. Including myself, we have a few sheep farmers, a dairy farmer, an agricultural accountant and an agricultural insurance underwriter. I have to say, it’s extremely handy to have so many differing angles of experience so readily available.

Our WhatsApp group chat is a haven for business decisions and advice, as well as the usual nonsense, hilarity and other important decisions girls need advice on - such as nail colour or outfit plans.

Although I’d dare say Sandra, our accountant, was less thrilled by the diversity of our group on Sunday morning when she was verging on the fragile side and we chose this time to quiz her on inheritance tax.

Sale

Monday morning rolled around and it was back to the grind.

The time is ticking for the upcoming female sale, so this week has been hectic. By this point, I’m colouring sheep in my sleep.

Every sheep going to the sale is coloured dark brown and has her tags read to check her breeding before being drawn into sale lots.

An old friend of mine once said: “You only have one chance of selling them, so you may as well do it right.”

This always sticks at the back of my head. He is of course correct - you want the sheep to be looking at their very best come sale day, even if it is a lot of work.

There’s a lot of discussion attached to this job and every day the total number we have for sale changes as some old girls are returned to their field - we can’t bear to part with them.

Between gimmers, full mouthed and broken mouthed (older) ewes we will have around 150 head of sheep heading to Plumbridge Market next Tuesday night. Hopefully by the end of today, all that will be left to do is keep our fingers crossed for a good trade.
