DEAR EDITOR,
I attended the Teagasc-organised BEEF 2026 event at Grange in Co Meath. I, along with everyone else I met who attended, was highly impressed with the layout, the organisation and the messaging on the day – it really was a breath of fresh air.
The take home message for me, which was heavily promoted by all the presenters, was that profitably by generating an economic return is key for the sector to move forward and to encourage succession.
Simple, basic and practical messages were the order of the day, which didn’t forget about environmental issues. One of the last “stops” outlined the main points in the current TAMS3 grant funding which included a 60% grant rate up to a €90,000 ceiling for both a Young Farmer Capital Investment Scheme and Farm Safety Capital Investment Scheme amongst other things.
It made the eyes of visitors from Northern Ireland water. Once again, congratulations to the organisers for providing us with such a thought-provoking day.
