Many parts of the country experienced persistent heavy rainfall last night, after a pair of rainfall warnings were issued yesterday, 16 April.
According to Met Éireann, Valentia in Co Kerry, had the highest amount of rainfall in the country during the past 24-hour period, recording 42.2mm.
That figure is almost double the highest daily rainfall recorded in April 2017 – 21.5 mm also on Valentia.
The west and the south of the country seem to have suffered the most, with consistently high rainfall for Belmullet, Mayo and Cork Airport.
Rainfall recording stopped at midnight, which means that rainfall from this morning still has to be registered.
