Vet Mary Newman, has been added to the Fine Gael party ticket, and will run alongside Garret Ahearn for a seat in Tipperary in the next general election.
Newman tweeted that she was “delighted” to have been selected yesterday as part of the Fine Gael campaign for the county.
“I’m deeply committed to the rebuilding of Fine Gael in this constituency, having worked tirelessly through my work on the Tipperary Fine Gael taskforce review, the hustings and, ultimately, the convention last March.”
Newman is the older sister of current Fine Gael TD Kate O’Connell, who has represented the Dublin Bay South constituency since the 2016 general election.

Qualifying as a vet in University College Dublin in 2000, Newman currently works for global animal health company Zoetis.
