Details of six hazardous waste collection points for 2025 have been released. The locations for the 2025 collections include Clare, Meath, Cork, Tipperary, Mayo and Kerry.
The Department states that these collections follow the successful trial of farm hazardous waste collection days which took place in Wexford, Laois and Offaly in autumn of 2024.
The venues for this year’s collections are detailed in Table 1, while the products accepted and cost per kilo of product delivered are detailed in Table 2.
The collections are as a result of a recommendation of the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan 2021-2027 (NHWMP), Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine and Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, in conjunction with stakeholders.
As such, the details were announced jointly by Minister for Agriculture Martin Heydon TD, together with Minister of State at the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment, Alan Dillon TD.
The collection dates in 2024 saw 95,000kg of hazardous waste submitted from approximately 600 farms.
The collection days are being supported through strengthened cooperation with stakeholders in the veterinary medicine and plant protection product sectors.
Minister Heydon said: “I encourage farmers across all farm enterprises to avail of this service and to dispose of any hazardous waste which may be on their farms.
The removal of such waste from farms ensures compliance with legislation and reduces possible biosecurity, environmental or human health risks.”
He added that: “In parallel with the roll-out of further collection days, my Department continues to work closely with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment and other members of the National Hazardous Waste Management Plan (NHWMP) working group on appropriate regulatory developments regarding hazardous waste management via Extended Producer Responsibly (EPR) schemes.”
Minister Dillon said: “Finding a suitable outlet for disposing of various hazardous waste items can be difficult for many households, including farm households, so I am delighted to have this opportunity to work with my colleague Minister Heydon to facilitate the collection of such waste materials at these six locations this year through provision of funding from the Circular Economy Fund.
“In addition to these six collection days, my Department has also provided funding to the local authority sector, again from the Circular Economy Fund, to facilitate household hazardous waste collection days at 11 other locations throughout the State.
“I expect that similar levels of funding will be provided in 2026 to ensure that households and farms will continue to be provided with safe and convenient outlets to dispose of their household hazardous waste.”
