Clare may not be a county traditionally regarded for its strong auction results, but a number of farms bucked this trend over the last few weeks. Aided by their presentation in small acreages, each manageable package sold for between €7,300 to a rather extraordinary €16,400/ac. Handling each sale was Diarmuid McMahon of Sherry Fitzgerald McMahon. Three farms sold in all, the first an almost 34-acre holding at Lismulbreeda near Ennis, the second a 20-acre farm at Poulaphuca and the third a 9.6-acre farm on the Kilrush road in Ennis. The first two farms were sold in lots, with the latter selling in its entirety. The large prices were dictated by the small acreages offered.
