Dad’s Army. Based on the classic BBC sitcom, this remake is sure to evoke the memories of the former. Set in 1944, it tells of the misadventures of the elderly members of the local voluntary defense force during the Second World War. Starring Catherine Zeta Jones as a glamorous journalist, Michael Gambon, Bill Nighy and Blake Harrison, the comedy is due for release on 5 February.

RBS Six Nations. Coverage of Europe’s premier rugby competition begins this Saturday with live coverage of France vs Italy in the Stade de France, followed by Scotland and England at Murrayfield. Ireland will be hoping that the recent stuttering form of the provinces will not affect their performance, as they take on Wales in the Aviva Stadium on Sunday at 3pm.

The Thurles native began his successful career in comedy back in the 1980s with John Kenny, as part of the D’Unbelievables, and since then has had success with Father Ted, Killinaskully and Garage, for which he won an IFTA for Best Actor. The tour sees him return to his comedic roots and will no doubt be a popular gig.

Ireland’s largest craft beer festival, the Alltech Craft Brews and Food Fair, takes place in The Convention Centre, Dublin, this Friday to Sunday. The fair will feature a host of local and international craft beverages as well as local culinary delights. A wide range of rock and pop acts are on hand for entertainment, while food experts will “educate palates”.
