Tuesday’s sale at Tuam Mart saw a good entry of over 500 sheep on offer. Mart manager Marian Devane said that most were sold, with very few going home. She added that while prices are back just slightly, factory agents seemed to be very active at the sale and farmers were quite happy overall.

The best demand was for 44kg to 48kg well-covered and good-quality lambs. Heavy lambs over 48kg sold from €122 to €125/head.
The majority of those on offer were from 44kg to 46kg and these sold mainly from €115 to €122, with the level of flesh having an impact on the prices paid.

Lighter lambs from 40kg to 45kg sold mainly from €100 to €115/head, with few falling below the €100/head mark. Lighter types from 35kg to 40kg sold mainly from €85 to €100/head.
There was a good entry of cull ewes on offer also and demand for these from farmers and feeders was solid.

Heavy ewes were bought primarily by factory agents, while second-quality cast ewes were met with strong farmer demand.
The majority were better-quality types and sold from €100 to a top price of €114/head. Second-quality and old thin ewes sold from €62/head to €85/head, depending on quality.

Commission rates are €1 to the buyer and 1.5% to the seller.
