ABP is one of Ireland and Europe’s leading privately owned food processors. The Group operates across many businesses, spanning Ireland, the UK and Continental Europe. It consists of five separate divisions: ABP Beef, ABP Proteins, ABP Convenience Foods, ABP Pet Foods and ABP Renewables. The company is controlled by its founder and renowned beef baron who just turned 80 years of age Larry Goodman.

ABP Food Group works with a network of over 35,000 farmers and is located strategically around the world and within Ireland. Locally placed abattoirs in the right place minimise animal transport distances and cost for the farmer. ABP Food Group generates an estimated €1.3bn each year into the rural economies in which it operates.

ABP’s core business – ABP Beef – is supported by its renewable, pet food and protein divisions, which combine to ensure the value of by-products is maximized and to reduce the environmental impact of their business and customers. ABP is also involved in a number of research projects to help increase profitability and education in the dairy to beef calf industry. Such projects include:

  • The Teagasc/Irish Farmers Journal BETTER beef programme which has over 30 farmers all around Ireland receiving technical advice from deicated advisers.
  • ABP are also involved in the The Teagasc/ABP Dairy Beef Programme. The aim of this project is identify most suitable beef bull genetics for crossing on dairy herd. ABP also have a R&D farm in Clonegal, Co Carlow which carries out important work on genetics alongside the ICBF (Irish Cattle Breeding Federation). This is also ABP’s biggest blade farming operation in Ireland.
