A number of roles in the deboning area of Kepak Clonee have been made redundant following a consultation process.

Kepak confirmed the redundancies following a consultation process.

Some staff were redeployed into alternative roles within the business.

“There is no change to operations at the Clonee abattoir, which will remain fully operational, and Kepak will continue to source and process cattle from its farmer supply base at the site, as it has done for over 45 years,” a spokesperson for Kepak told the Irish Farmers Journal.

“Deboning and food service operations at Clonee have been reallocated to other Kepak sites to improve efficiency and better align capacity with available supply.

“Following the consultation process, unfortunately a number of roles were made redundant. However, we were able to redeploy some colleagues into alternative roles within the business.

“Our priority throughout has been to support our colleagues through this process while ensuring a more sustainable and secure long-term future for the business,” the spokesperson said.

ABP

ABP has confirmed to the Irish Farmers Journal that it has concluded its consultation process regarding potential redundancies at the cutting and deboning operation at its Waterford facility.

“The proposed changes relate to the cutting and deboning operation only. The abattoir at the Waterford facility is not affected and continues to receive cattle.

“As this process relates to employees, it is not appropriate to comment further at this time,” an ABP spokesperson said.

ABP began the consultation with approximately 230 employees in February.

The consultation process at both meat factories came into play as a result of reduced livestock supply and increasing costs in Ireland.
