Mental health knows no boundaries – it affects people of all ages, genders and backgrounds.
At Cycle Against Suicide, our mission is simple yet powerful: to empower people with the awareness, education, tools and support they need to face life’s mental health challenges.
Through a wide range of innovative programmes, we strive to reduce stigma, promote resilience and save lives.
Young people and schools
UNICEF ranks Ireland 4th out of 31 European countries when it comes to youth suicide. The Irish College of General Practitioners also reports that 1-in-3 Irish children will face mental health challenges by the age of 13.
Research has shown that when young people have the knowledge and skills to understand mental health, they are better able to support themselves and their peers. Early, proactive education in mental wellbeing can also reduce the risk of mental health issues in adulthood.
Cycle Against Suicide is one of the largest providers of wellbeing programmes to primary and secondary schools in Ireland.
Youth Peer Support Programme
Launching in November 2025, our Youth Peer Support Programme grounded in CBT will train student leaders in secondary schools and youth clubs to support their peers.
By empowering young leaders with these skills, we are creating a supportive, informed peer network that fosters mental wellbeing and strong social connections for future generations.
Parents and families
We recognise that parents play a vital role in a young person’s recovery from mental illness. Yet they often feel overwhelmed, uncertain, or ill-equipped to help, especially with the rise in self-harm and suicidal behaviour among young people.
Cycle Against Suicide is developing a dedicated programme for parents to provide them with accurate, accessible information and practical guidance, equipping parents/guardians with tools to support their child through recovery
Until this programme is launched, we are supporting parents, and teachers through psychoeducational webinars, delivered in partnership with the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Department at University College Dublin.
Peer support in workplaces and communities
Our Peer Support Training Programme is an evidence-based initiative that equips people to offer meaningful support to others in both community and workplace settings.
By fostering a culture of openness, compassion and connectedness, this programme helps create mentally healthy environments where people feel valued and supported at work or in their community.
Men’s mental health
In Ireland, 3 out of 4 suicides are men. Yet many men still face barriers when it comes to seeking help.
Cycle Against Suicide develops targeted education and resources for men, addressing stigma and encouraging help-seeking in ways that resonate with their experiences and challenges.
Awareness Cycles
Our Awareness Cycles are at the very heart of what we do. These events bring people together, spark open conversations and help break the silence and shame that too often surrounds mental health.
They are powerful moments of connection, raising awareness, encouraging support-seeking, and reminding us all that together, we CAN save lives.
