For me, autumn means being able to pack on the makeup like a boss. Foundations get heavier and more matte, winged liner gets thicker and wing-ier and lips get darker and vampier! I do love wearing a darker lip in the autumn and winter and always feel tres chic when I do so. I've got five berry toned lip products to show you today and we've got all kinds of finishes, hues and budgets taken care of so no excuse not to get vampalicious this autumn.
Estee Lauder's Pure Color Envy in Brazen is my pick for those who love a bit of luxury. If you're a fan of MAC's Rebel, then you'll love this shade. The Pure Color Envy range needs to be investigated if you haven't already. We're talking the most moisturising lipsticks on the market which is good for those of us who suffer with dry lips as the days get colder. The pigmentation is incredible and trying is believing with these guys. They're a dream to apply, stay put for ages and the shade Brazen leaves the lips lightly stained as it wears away. Amazing lippies and have I mentioned the magnetic case? Good luck trying to stop yourself from opening and closing it over and over! So satisfying...
Smashbox Be Legendary Long-Wear Lip Lacquer in Bordeaux is new out and promises eight hours of colour, starting off as a gloss and ending up as a stain. This feels so comfortable on the lips and is a combination of a gloss and a lacquer which I'm a huge fan of. Pigmentation and shine, that's what we're talking about and while it doesn't give me 8 hours of colour, I get a couple of hours out of the gloss and maybe a further hour out of the stain. The shade Bordeaux is divine and I feel totally in my comfort zone wearing this shade in public! The fact that it has Vitamin E to help condition the lips is the icing on the lip gloss shaped cake because I need all the help I can get in that department. I need more of these.
If the first two products have you a bit scared in terms of pigmentation, but you still want to attempt something in the berry lip department, then why not dip your toe into things slowly with the Burt's Bees Lip Shine in Smooch. It's nice and sheer but still has a berry tinge to it, so you won't be totally out of the loop. With apricot wax to give moisture to the lips, fans of a high shine finish will love this and when I apply this over Estee Lauder's Brazen, well it's a match made in heaven!
This autumn, matte lips are a huge trend and Maybelline recently brought out a range of Intense Velvet Lip Pencils which set the beauty world into overdrive. Or was that just me? Berry Much is berry amazing. Not only does it not dry out the lips, but it makes teeth look whiter, is very comfortable to wear despite it's matte finish and the fact that it comes in pencil form makes it handy to pop in one's handbag. I dare you to visit the Maybelline counter and come away with just one of these beauts.
Finally we have the new kid on the block from Rimmel. Following the fantastic success of the Rimmel Apocalips, they've brought out the Provocalips which promises a massive 16 hours of wear! One end houses the highly pigmented lip lacquer which dries after about two minutes, and then is set into place with the gloss on the other end of the tube. And it does what it says on the tin. Kiss Fatal is a wearable berry toned shade with a slight metallic finish and if you want something long lasting, then this is your only man. I get a good eight hours out of it, before having to use an oil based product to remove it because that's the only way this is coming off! I only have to top up the lip gloss a couple of times throughout the day and there's no transfer, no budging, no flaking, just berry lips all day and all night!
So listen, you have no excuse to jump on this autumn trend and no matter how brave or scared you are, there is a berry lip product out there for you!
