A visit to Béal na mBlath doesn’t cost a cent, but it is a landmark that anybody with even a sliver of interest in history should see.

There is a memorial standing at the site, which could be mistaken for a headstone. The most striking thing about the memorial at Béal na mBláth is the peace and serenity of the hills and nooks and crannies nearby. Even now, so many years on, it is easy to see why it was chosen as an ambush site. The surrounding landscape is virtually untouched which lends authenticity to the annual commemoration that takes place there.

You are also very likely to meet other visitors on the wide stretch of road by the memorial where many stories are exchanged and connections made.
