Handsome stallion Royal Concorde is an international showjumper who has won at the highest level including the 1.50 welcome stakes at the Royal Windsor Show, the Hickstead Speed Derby and the Hamburg Speed Derby
Dermot and Carmel Ryan’s stallion was always destined to be a star. As a son of Concorde, Royal Concorde has more than 45% thoroughbred blood in his pedigree. His dam, Trump Carder, is a grand prix-winning King of Diamonds mare, out of a mare called Carrighbrahan Peggy (Mossborough) who produced a total of ten progeny, of which five competed at grand prix level and three at international Grand Prix level (Kingsmeadow, Kings Farewell and Vagabond King).
Trump Carder excelled as a broodmare, breeding not only Royal Concorde, but also Dutch Treat, who in 1992 won the seven-year-old championship at the RDS under Jack Doyle. He also qualified for the World Championships in Lanaken that year and became the first owned-and-bred Irish stallion to be approved in the Studbook Zangersheide. Trump Carder also bred the mare Irma who went on to breed the super international stallion Carmena Z. Trump Carder’s full sister The Queen of Trumps was also an equally impressive broodmare who bred the Stallion Clover Flush. When Clover Flush was sold to Australia, he became five-time showjumping champion and was the reserve for the Sydney Olympics at just nine years old.
Concorde, Royal Concorde’s sire, is well known for passing on not only technique, but soundness and a great turn of foot. Concorde’s own dam Flyer was a full sister to the showjumper Vivaldi, who was American speed horse of the year and thought to be one of the best speed horses ever.
Royal Concorde retired to stud full time in 2010 and his oldest full crops are now turning four years old this year. Royal Concorde sired 20 progeny while he was competing, and from that number, he is the sire of the international showjumper, Nations Cup and the Grand Prix performer Annestown (1.60 level) who competes with the Irish Army Equitation School and also the three-star eventer Boundalong as well as another three horses competing (Annestown Clover Concorde, King Concorde and Rossdaragh Concorde).
Royal Concorde is the ultimate dual-purpose commercial stallion. As well as his showjumping career at the top level, he also competed in the eventing grand prix in Hickstead, finishing in fourth place – the highest of the showjumpers in 2008. He has already proven he is capable of breeding both eventers and show jumpers capable of competing at the top level. He is well known as a sire who breeds plenty of blood and his progeny have excellent temperaments combined with good looks, pretty heads and correct and sound conformation.
Royal Concorde is based at Bonmahon Sport Horses, Ballinasisla Stud, County Waterford, and is available with fresh or chilled semen nationwide. Mares are also welcome at stud with excellent terms on keep/vet. His fertility is excellent, making him a good choice for difficult mares. Frozen semen is also available from West Kingston stud in England. Royal Concorde stands alongside the fully approved TB stallion Ansiei, Clover Flush and Master Blue.
