Although it was not the busiest weekend on the international eventing calendar it was certainly a busy weekend on home soil. Killossery ran their second Eventing Ireland event on Saturday and Clyda got to run their first event of the season having had previous attempts cancelled due to the bad weather in the spring.
Ground preparation was essential in both venues and a special thanks must go to the teams and organisers who worked tirelessly to get the ground in the best possible conditions. Both venues are lucky that there is arena space available for show jumping.
Killossery
Sarah Ennis dominated in Killossery, winning the Hoofprint Innovations CNC1* with Shanbo Sky Fall, the ISH Studbook Young Horse CNC1* 6 year old with MTH Shannondale Khalessi and finishing second with Derroon Diplomat in the ISH Studbook Young Horse EI100 five-year-old class.
Emma Jackson won the O/CNC1* and came second in the 6 year old CNC1* class.
All sections of the EI100 and the EI90 proved to be very popular, although unlike the previous event held in Killossery they did not have enough entries to warrant splitting the bigger classes into separate sections.
Clyda
Michael McNally riding Eclipto won the O/CNC2*, finishing over five marks ahead of Frazer Duffy with Fernhill Exchange. Jesscia O’Driscoll won the CNC2* with Greenfort Marbridge. This 9 year old grey gelding was previously campaigned with Cathal Daniels and Robbie Kearns. Frazer Duffy filled the top two places in the CNC1*. Clyda is also one of the only venues in Ireland offering a EI105 class, giving horses and riders a step between EI100 and CNC1*.
Mealagh Flapjack and Zora Feurer took the honours, Pat Sheanhan finished second and Lee Maher finished third and fourth. Munster riders dominated both divisions of the EI100. Jessica O’Driscoll finished second to Dominic Furnell in section A and Brian Morrison won section B with Global Ranger.
Leanne Foskin claimed the EI90 Amateur class finishing on her dressage score and Meabh Bolger also finished on her dressage score with MSF Snipe to win the EI90 class.
Bramham
Some Irish riders did feature on the international stage. Three finished inside the top 20 in the CCI3* at Bramham International Horse Trials. Austin O’Connor and Lucky Contender were the highest placed in 17th place.
Unfortunelty it was not as good as weekend for Cathal Daniels who fell off his Chatsworth winner Sammy Davis Junior, or for Elizabeth Power and Michelle Kenny who both retired.
