Emerald International Equestrian Centre in Enfield, Co Kildare, has been placed on the open market for sale, with selling agents REA McDonald Bros beginning a tender process which will conclude on 27 February.

This is the latest twist in the equestrian centre’s chequered history. The purpose-built centre, formerly known as Jessbrook and previously owned by convicted drug dealer John Gilligan, is set on 58 acres of prime Kildare land.

The property, once estimated to be worth €5m, was seized by the Criminal Assets Bureau in 1996.

Last week, a little over a year since it was purchased from CAB by current owner James Buckley for a reported €500,000, it goes back on the open market.

Buckley and his family have invested a substantial sum in a comprehensive renovation project, which culminated in the venue playing host to its first and only major international show, the Irish Masters, last November.

The property portfolio includes two indoor and three outdoor jumping arenas, all with the same high-quality jumping surface, which was supplied by Equestrian Surfaces Ireland in 2014 and received hugely positive feedback from some of the world’s top riders during events in 2014.

Emerald International boasts ample car and truck parking along with 44 stables. The property includes a separate building with a fully equipped four-bedroom apartment and also a further one bedroom apartment.

The equestrian centre is for sale by private tender in two lots. Lot 1 comprises the equestrian centre on 49.55 acres of land, with lot 2 comprising lands extending to 8.73 acres.
