It is heartening to see a number of very talented mares in action in Ireland at present and another quality sort was on show at Fairyhouse on Saturday, where Morning Run claimed the Grade 3 Solerina Mares Novice Hurdle.
Now undefeated in six starts, the Mullins-trained Morning Run was encountering heavy ground for the first time, but she coped well with the conditions to see off her promising stablemate Lyrical Theatre. A switch to open company and a crack at some quality geldings would hold no fears for Morning Run, but she looks set to keep to mares-only company, with a grade 1 at Fairyhouse at Easter now on her agenda. Even at this early stage, she looks to set a fair benchmark for success in that event.
