Edging

With 3.25mm needles, cast on 10 sts.

K 1 row, then work in patt as follows:

• 1st row (wrong side) Sl 1, [k1, yf, k2tog] twice, k1, y2rn, k1, y2rn, k1.

• 2nd row [K2, p1] twice (each y2rn is treated as 2 sts, the first is worked as k1, the second as p1), k2, [yf, k2tog, k1] twice.

• 3rd row Sl 1, [k1, yf, k2tog] twice, k7.

• 4th row Cast off 4, k3, [yf, k2tog, k1] twice.

These 4 rows form the border patt and are repeated until border is long enough to fit all around the edge of the centre patt, gathering slightly at the corners, ending with a 3rd row.

Cast off.

To make up

Block centre square by placing a towel over a board and pinning knitting out to the correct dimensions. Spray lightly with water and leave to dry.

Cover border in sections with a damp cloth and press lightly with a medium iron. Join ends of edging across the cast-on and cast-off edges and sew around the edge of the square.
