Fishwives aim for “Cookbook Oscars”

A unique cookbook from Ireland’s leading trout farm is nominated in two categories this weekend at the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.

Fishwives, which was launched by Goatsbridge Trout Farm last October in aid of Hospice Africa Uganda, has been nominated in the charity cookbook category and the fish cookbook category, with the winners to be announced at a ceremony in event in China on 27-28 May.

The awards honour the best food and wine books, print or digital, from around the world. Books from 205 countries participate, the only international competition of its type.

Fishwives contains 78 recipes from women from the world of politics, entertainment, business and food, ranging from Darina Allen and Clodagh McKenna, to former Tanaiste Mary Harney and Bord Bia CEO Tara McCarthy.

Goatsbridge Trout Farm produces trout caviar and high-quality rainbow trout products, including cold smoked and hot smoked trout.

Hospice Africa Uganda was founded by Dr Anne Merriman in 1991 and has helped make a difference at end-of-life to almost 30,000 seriously ill and dying patients since its foundation.

Four Irish businesses win a slot at Taste of Dublin

Bank of Ireland has announced the four successful Irish businesses which have won a stand at the producers row at Taste of Dublin on 15-18 June in the Iveagh Gardens.

Flavour Safari, Mama Nagi’s, Cabots of Westport and O’Brien’s Farmhouse Cheese will have the chance to exhibit to more than 34,000 food enthusiasts, alongside internationally-known brands.

In addition to winning a stand at the four-day festival, the four businesses will have the opportunity to sell their products at Taste of Dublin and will receive promotion through Bank of Ireland’s online channels.

“We received a huge amount of entries this year, showcasing the wonderful variety of food and beverage businesses operating around the country.”

Flavour Safari, based in Laois, makes African inspired sauces. Mama Nagi’s from Dublin produce authentic Indian chilli pastes. Cabots of Westport have a range of hand-prepared and preservative-free hummus, sauces, pâté’s and dips, while O’Brien’s Farmhouse Cheese makes delicious cheeses from their base in Limerick.
