Rohan Engineering from Limerick manufactures a range of equipment. Following on from its bale handling range, it is set to launch a new hydraulic double bale handler. Rohan Engineering says this machine is the first of its kind in this class of machine, with two pivoting legs mounted on the frame. Both legs are independently powered by hydraulic rams. The middle is a fixed section with a robust design with the centre bar providing stability for the two bales when loaded.

The manufacturer says the large-diameter pipes and rollers lead to less stress on the plastic of the wrapped bales and a rubber damper prevents noise and wear on the machine itself. The hinge points are greaseable and bronze bushes are fitted.

The machine seems to be operator friendly. The second bale is easily loaded as when the roller is in the open position it is wider than a bale, which means the machine with one bale already loaded can stay in the raised position when loading the second one. This design offers a big advantage with wrapped bale silage as it is not pushing the wrapped silage bale along the soil surface.

The machine has a closed width of 7ft 9in, which is well under the legal road requirements. This is also a tidy machine behind the tractor when travelling or in narrow passageways.

With an unladen weight of just under 360kg, it is also light enough to be used by most modern tractors.

Most silage bales will weigh in between 600-700kg giving a weight of under 2t when loaded with silage bales.

The machine is also available with a changeover valve which allows it to be used by all front loading machines with a lift capacity of 2t or more.
