Auctioneer Darren Hession was kept on his toes as he officiated from the rostrum at Friday's Exclusive Extravaganza sale of Beltex, Dutch Spotted, Dassenkop and Blue Texel sheep.
Leading the trade was the overall champion Beltex Shanderg La Vida. A son of Shanderg JFK, his dam is the Balmoral Show champion Matts Enzo.
Exhibited by Galway man Cathal Tuohy, the champion sold for €2,250 to Michael and Niamh Oliver's flock in Co Mayo.
Securing the second-highest price of the day was Tom Clarke from Co Mayo with another Beltex shearling ram Branraduff Lion.
A second-prizewinner in his class, he was purchased by Paul and Sean McCartney in Co Laois for €2,000.
Cathal Tuohy's third-prizewinning shearling ram realised €1,800 when he sold to Alan Cuddy, Co Laois, while his first-prizewinning ram lamb sold for €1,150 to Conor Quinn, capping off a wonderful day for the Shanderg flock, which also claimed the reserve male and reserve female championships.
Ballinakill flock
The Ballinakill flock of John and JJ Maher also enjoyed a successful outing, with ram lambs selling to a top price of €1,500 to Paul McCartney, with another ram lamb selling for €900 to Michael Fitzgerald.
Trade for females was also brisk, with the female champion Kilnacappagh Leanne, also from the Ballinakill flock, selling for €1,050 to Sean Brown, while Paul McCartney purchased Ballinakill Lyra for €980.
Champion in the Dutch Spotted ring was the ewe lamb Woodview Jaci from Declan McGettigan.
A Westbroad Diago daughter, she sold for the top price of €880, as females averaged €630.
Reserve champion was the ram lamb Workmans Jameson, a Hillside Humpty Dumpty son brought out by the Workman family in Co Monaghan, which went on to sell for €620, as males averaged €555.
Blue Texel
Topping the Blue Texel trade at €1,800 was the Irish national champion ram lamb Limestone King from the Walsh brothers in Co Donegal, who also received €1,300 and €1,400 for two Dassenkop rams.
