Prices started at €2,000 and averaged €2,804 at the final Charolais Society spring sale which took place in Tullamore. The top price of €4,600 was paid for the senior male champion Kilbline Indigo, bred by Noel Sugrue, Bennettsbridge, Co Kilkenny.

By Oscar and out of a homebred dam by Hermes, he has five stars for carcase weight and 4.5 stars for carcase conformation.

The purchaser was Galway farmer Edward McHugh, Barnaderg, Tuam.

  • €3,850 to Patrick Hillary, Whitepark, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, for Whitepark Iarla by Cloverfield Excellent and out of a homebred dam by Doonally New. With five stars for carcase weight and conformation, he was purchased by Maurice Walsh, Ballydangan, Co Roscommon.
  • €3,200 to Joseph Casserly, Cashel, Newtowncashel, Co Longford, for Newtown Ivan, a son of Hara Kiri. Out of a homebred dam by Pirate, he has five stars for daughter’s milk and was bought by Liam Maguire, Carratrasna, Derrylin, Co Fermanagh.
  • €3,050 to David Abbott, Drumcrow, Killeshandra, Co Cavan, for the second prize winner Drumcrow Ivan, a son of Roughan Callum. Out of a homebred dam by Burradon Talisman, he was purchased by Declan Clavin, Tubrid, Oldcastle, Co Meath. He has five stars for carcase weight, conformation and daughter’s milk.
  • €3,000 to Seamus McCann, Bettystown, Co Meath, for the reserve senior champion Top Notch Horatio. By Grove Victor, he is out of a homebred dam by Excellent and has five stars for carcase weight. The purchaser was Christy Conroy, Ballinahemmy, Clonaslee, Co Laois.
  • €3,000 to Eugene Egan, Deerpark, Ballyfin, Co Laois, for Redgate Indigo. By Blelack Digger and out of a dam by Doonally New, he has a five star rating for carcase weight and daughter’s milk, along with four stars for carcase conformation. The buyer was Stephen Morrison, Hartwell, Kill, Co Kildare.
  • €3,000 to Basil Bothwell, Dereskit, Killeshandra, Co Cavan, for Dereskit Isaac, a son of Roughan Callum. He has a five stars for carcase weight and 4.5 stars for carcase conformation. The purchaser was Raymond Gee, Tinweir, Durrow, Co Laois.
  • Meanwhile, the junior championship went to Kiltananlae Indigo, bred by Noel Galvin, Lackenavea, Birdhill, Co Tipperary.

    He is by Balthazar and out of a Major-bred dam. In reserve was Mattie Kelly, Cloughbrack, Newbridge, Ballinasloe, Co Galway, for Cloughbrack Impeccable, by Dromiskin Viceroy and out of a homebred dam by Enfield Newlook.

    Neither champions sold in the ring. Two bulls were exported to the north and the clearance on the day was 65%.
