Following on from two successful sales, the Southwest and Cork Limousin clubs will host their third biennial sale at Central Auctions, Roscrea, on Saturday 6 September.

The sale will consist of 34 maiden and in-calf heifers, ranging in age from 38 down to 9 months.

Dams of all heifers and those over 24 months of age are tested free of Johne’s disease, with many of the heifers coming from herds participating in a herd health programme.

From an index perspective, the catalogue is the best offered from the clubs to date.

According to club chairman, Eric McSweeney, the sale offers a great opportunity for new and existing breeders to pick up something special.

“If you are a new breeder, the heifers offer the opportunity to purchase a foundation female,” McSweeney said. “There are heifers suitable for all enterprises, including the show ring or breeding the best pedigree or commercial genetics. Twenty-five different AI sires are represented in the catalogue, providing a huge genetic selection. Many of the heifers’ sires are in the top 1% for indexes such as replacement, terminal, daughter’s milk and gestation, with the majority in the top 10% for different traits,” he added.

“Many of the heifers are at the upper end of the scale for terminal, replacement, carcase weight and conformation.

“Twenty-one heifers are below the breed average for calving, while 28 heifers are above the breed average for daughter milk.”

Ringside and online bidding will be available through Martbids, with the sale commencing at 1.30pm and viewing from 12pm.
