Three bulls shared the top price of €5,100 at the first autumn Charolais show and sale in Tullamore last Saturday which saw a rise in the average to €3,395 (up from €3,256). With prices starting at €2,000, a solid trade produced a 75% clearance including two bulls that sold to the North.
Aidan Farrell, Boyanna, Moate, took home the first €5,100 tag for his bull Williamstown Harold, a Goldstar Echo son out of the dam, Lyonsdemesne Thelma (by Major). With five stars for terminal index and 4½ stars for maternal index, he was purchased by Arthur Donald, Boggan, Kilbride, Co Carlow.
Not stopping there, Aidan clinched another €5,100 for a second bull, Williamstown Hume, this time by Pirate. He is out of Tullabrack Amy (by Oscar) and has 4½ stars each for both terminal and maternal indices. The buyer was from NI.
David Erskine, Crosses, Co Monaghan, also achieved €5,100 for first prize winner Fieldview Harper. By Doonally New, he is out of a homebred dam Fieldview Dahlia (by Mogador) and has five starts for terminal index and two stars for maternal index. The purchaser was Ciaran Cassidy, Derryartry, Scotstown, Co Monaghan.
In the ring, the championship went to William Scanlon, Furmoyle, Carrowniskey, Westport, for Fermoyle Hero by Cottage Devon. He is out of a Doonally Nicefor dam and was withdrawn in the ring.

€5,000 to Joe Clancy, Gortreevagh, Oughterard, Co Galway, for his bull Western Henry by Pirate. Out of a homebred Doonally New dam, he has five stars for terminal index and four stars for maternal index. The purchaser was Shay Hennessy, Courtnacuddy, Enniscorthy.

€4,400 to Michael J Quin, Clenagh, Newmarket-on-Fergus, for Clenagh Homer bought by Martin Meehan, Croughville, Carron, Co Clare. In the top 5% of the breed for muscle and skeletal, he is a son of Pirate and out of a homebred dam by Hermes.
€4,350 to Richard Hackett, Coolistigue, Clonlara, Co Clare, for Limkiln Historic by Enfield Plexus and out of a homebred dam by Pirate. He was purchased by Gerard O’Kane, Omagh, Co Tyrone.
€3,900 to Seamus McCann, Bettystown, for the reserve champion Topnotch Harry bought by Rory Begley, Riverstown, Dundalk. He is by Newrath Friend (by Mogador) and out of Leagaun Eliza (by Sang D’Or).
€3,800 to Michael Nerney, Elphin, for his second prize winner Windmill Hedgehunter. By Crossmolin Euro, he is out of a homebred dam by Indurain. He has four stars in both the terminal and maternal indices and is in the top 5% of the breed for muscle and in the top 1% for skeletal. He was purchased by Michael Ryan, Knockjames, Tulla, Co Clare.

€3,750 to Anthony McColgan, Culkenny, Lifford, for Culkenny Henry (he is in the top 1% of the breed for muscle). By Kilbline Fatal and out of a homebred dam by Doonally New, he was purchased by Michael McNamara, Meggah, Carron, Ennis.
€3,550 was paid for one of the youngest bulls in the sale at 14 months old Grangwood Hooper by Enfield Picasso and out of a homebred dam by Dovea Pinocchio. A second prize winner in his class, he is in the top 5% of the breed for muscle and skeletal and was purchased by Tom Kilcooley, Banntagh, Gort.
€3,300 to Nigel Peavoy, Mountrath, Co Laois, for third prize winner Monagh Hawk. By Pirate, he is out of a homebred dam by Doonally New and was bought by Ferdie Keogh, Brideswell, Athlone, Co Westmeath. He has five star ratings for both terminal and maternal indices.
€3,300 to Ronan Carey, Sion Hill, Killucan, for his second prize winner Sionhaill Hank. Purchased by Christy O’Neill, Millerstown, Killucan, Co Westmeath, he is by Blakestown Uncle Sam, out of a Doonally New dam.
