A sizeable 174-acre beef farm with an address at Barnacurra, Newmarket, Co Cork, was offered for sale in a number of lots by public auction last week. The property, which was farmed by two brothers who each operated their own separate beef enterprise, came to the market with two farmyards and two central farm roadways. The farm buildings included cubicle sheds with automatic scrapers, a disused milking parlour, double-walled hay barns and some stone outbuildings.

On the day, over 100 people packed into the Hi-Land Centre, Newmarket, where selling agent Michael Drew, Boherbue, offered the farm in a range of lots. With the exception of a 36-acre portion, the rest of the farm sold for a figure in the region of €7,500/acre. All the buyers were farmers living locally or from the general vicinity. It’s understood that talks are continuing for the remaining 36 acres.

On the same day, Drew also offered a 23-acre parcel of land situated in Reanagshel, Newmarket, for sale by public auction. This parcel contained circa 16 acres of forestry, which were withdrawn at auction, while the remaining seven acres of grassland were bought by a local farmer for €5,000/acre.
