Friday 22 May saw auctioneer Thomas Potterton bringing down the hammer on a 10.5ac parcel of Meath land that achieved more than €28,500/ac.

To a lively auction room at the REA office in Trim, Co Meath, the farm, located at Dangan, Co Meath, was keenly contested, with six bidders in the room and one online.

Opening at €140,000, the holding sold for €301,000 after a spirited 48 bid exchange, with a local businessman with farming interests securing the property.

According to the Irish Farmers Journal’s 2025 Land Report, the average price of land in Meath land stands at €18,543/ac, putting this farm more than €10,000/ac above the county average.

Thomas Potterton credits the good location as the reason for the demand.

Earlier in the week, on Wednesday 20 May, two separate lots in Co Meath generated similar strong interest under Thomas Potterton’s gavel. Opening at €90,000 to a room of eight bidders (two in-person and six online), a 7.5ac smallholding with a derelict residence on-site at Baltrasna Oldcastle, Co Meath, sold for €132,500.

Online bids for the property came from as far as Australia, with the holding eventually going to a solicitor in trust.

At the same auction, a 15ac parcel at Rathbrack, Oldcastle, Co Meath, exceeded the original guide price by €37,000 when the holding sold for €152,000 to a drystock farmer.
