Last weekend was a memorable one for Willie Mullins as he took care of some unfinished business when Total Recall claimed a gritty success in the Ladbrokes Trophy at Newbury. Mullins won this race with Be My Royal back in 2002 only for the horse to lose the race on a technicality owing to contaminated feed. All this meant that Total Recall was the first Irish-trained horse to win this race in 37 years and he is only the second to do so since the immortal Arkle in 1965.

Meanwhile the 2017 sales season continued its stellar finish as the bouyant trends
continued at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.
The week’s star turn was a 750,000gns Dubawi half-sister to the Irish Derby winner Jack Hobbs. She was bought by Godolphin. Away from the top of the market trade was very strong and ultra competitive as evidenced by the average for the sale coming in at a record breaking 44,027gns while the 25,000gns median also represented a new high in the sale’s history.
