Fortgranite near Baltinglass in Wicklow, has been sold by private treaty for an undisclosed sum. The 340ac estate includes an 11-bedroom house, dairy parlour and 220-unit cubicle house.

The property was guided at €3.5m and the sale was handled by Jordans and Knight Frank. Of the 340ac, 285ac are in the main block with the residence and yard. In total, there is circa 85ac of parkland in the overall holding and 10 acres in tillage.

It was sold by the Dennis family which has connections with numerous well-known figures, from 17th century satirist Jonathan Swift, to the Shakespearean scholar Edgar Flower, the artist Kathleen Marescaux, and the Indian tea magnate Maurice Fitzgerald Sandes.

Piers Dennis started the dairy enterprise in the 1960s.
