Lisavaird Food Group, a subsidiary company of west Cork-based Lisavaird Co-op, has completed the acquisition of JDS Foods in an undisclosed deal.
JDS Foods is a specialist producer of butter and margarine spreads to the retail, foodservice and bakery sectors. The company owns a number of brands including Dairymaid, the branded butter spread with roots going back as far as the 1880s to the Cork Butter Exchange, which was once the world’s benchmark butter market trading £1.5m worth of butter per annum.
JBS Foods was owned by the Fleury family, who acquired the business in 2001. With sales in the region of €16m per annum, JDS operates from a manufacturing facility on the outskirts of Cork city. Accounts for JDS Foods’ financial year to the end of September 2015 show the company generated operating profits of more than €893,000. However, due to a €1.7m loss on the sale of property, the company recorded a pre-tax loss of €825,000. Shareholder funds in the business were valued at more than €3.17m in 2015.
