Carr’s Billington, an agricultural-supply company operating in northern England and southern Scotland, has acquired Agri-Lloyd for an undisclosed sum.
Agri-Lloyd, the supplier of animal-health and nutrition products, is well-known within Irish farming circles as the company has a long-established presence in the country.
It is a regular stand holder, for example, at events such as the National Ploughing Championships, the Tullamore Show and the Ulster Winter Fair.
Billington Group
Carr’s Billington is part of the wider Billington Group of companies, which includes food businesses as well as agricultural merchants.
Most recent accounts for the group showed turnover of £601m in the 12 months to the end of June 2025 and a profit before tax of £18m.
The group employs more than 1,800 people. As well as Agri-Lloyd, Billington also acquired its sister company, Farmsense, which specialises in animal health, with a particular focus on alternatives to traditional antibiotic use.
Excellent fit
“We believe the Agri-Lloyd and Farmsense businesses are an excellent strategic fit for Carr’s Billington,” said Debbie Hewison, managing director of Carr’s Billington.
“Bringing these businesses together gives us an even stronger platform to support farmers with valuable products, expertise and practical advice while strengthening our position as a leading supply business for agriculture,” added Hewison.
Following the acquisition, Agri-Lloyd will continue to operate as an independent business under the existing leadership, who will retain responsibility for sales, manufacturing operations in Leominster, England, and the warehouse operation in Dublin, Ireland.
