Glanbia announced that Mark Garbey will retire from the company in March of next year after more than 13 years as chief financial officer (CFO) and executive director.
His position will be taken by Wendy Chang Smith, who takes on the role of CFO designate from 10 September.
She was previously CFO of Glanbia’s performance nutrition division.
Prior to joining Glanbia in 2020, Chang Smith held finance positions with Amazon, Kellogg's, Johnson & Johnson and Proctor & Gamble. She is based in Glanbia’s head office in Dublin.
Glanbia CEO Hugh McGuire congratulated Chang Smith on her appointment and thanked Garvey for “his outstanding leadership and significant contribution to Glanbia over the past 13 years”, adding that he “led the financial stewardship of the group through a period of significant change”.
There was some controversy in 2024 when Garvey was awarded a once-off retention bonus equal to a full year’s salary in the wake of the retirement of then-CEO Siobhán Talbot.
The retention period to achieve that bonus was completed at the end of 2025. Glanbia’s annual report for 2025 revealed that Garvey owned 349,558 shares in the company, which would be valued at over €7.6m at current share prices.
