In its latest bid to revive sales, McDonald’s is adding a new sirloin burger option to its menu in the US.

This will allow it to better compete with upstart gourmet burger chains such as Shake Shack and Five Guys. The sirloin burgers will be priced at about $5 – 25% more than the Big Mac.

If this latest premium offering from McDonald’s is a success, then it is likely the sirloin burgers will be rolled out to Europe.

With one in five McDonald’s burgers eaten in Europe made from Irish beef, the new sirloin burger may present an opportunity for the Irish beef industry.
