Greg Broderick recorded back to back wins at the National Balmoral Championships when he took the honours in the TRM/Horseware New Heights Champions Series and lodged his first win in the SJI National Grand Prix series.

Riding Billy Pringle in the National Grand Prix , the Tipperary rider came out in front in a 14-way jump-off to secure the winner’s share of the €4,000 purse on offer in the Killyhevlin Lakeside Hotel and Lodges and Friends of National Balmoral sponsored class.

Owned by GBBS Int Ltd and Shane Breen, Billy Pringle is a seven-year-old gelding, bred by west Sussex-based Donal Barnwell. He is by Kannan out of the Drummer-sired mare Spectrum.

Broderick continued his winning streak the next day, taking the honours in the TRM/Horseware New Heights Champions Series aboard Chinook II. Broderick is proving to be a dominant force in this series, claiming four of the seven rounds that have taken place and featuring in six of the seven line-up’s.

Bred by H.A.J. Smolders, Westerhoven and now owned by Molly Tracy, Chinook II is a 10-year-old Dutch warmblood by Verdi out of Unavanta. A former mount of Veronica Tracy and before that Anthony Condon, the gelding has competed on the international circuit up to 1.60m and has had results at Olympia, Barcelona and Birmingham to name a few. Since taking over the ride of Chinook, Broderick has lodged three wins in this series.

TATTERSALLS ACTION

At the weekend Tattersalls also hosted both the SJI National Grand Prix and the TRM/Horseware New Heights Champions Series. Captain Geoff Curran led the victory lap in both classes.

Curran took the honours in the National Grand Prix with Galway Bay Easy Touch. From the 60 starters, 14 proceeded to the jump-off and four of those delivered double clears.

Bred by Justin Burke from Galway, Galway Bay Easy Touch is a nine-year-old gelding by Prince Des Vaux out of the Touchstone-sired Simply Touch (ISH).

The gelding was sold as a three-year-old to Catherine Thornton and produced by her with much success up to 2015 before being sold to the Army Equitation School where he was campaigned by Lt David Power before Curran took over the ride in July.

The Breeder Justin Burke, who owns Galway Bay Stud bought the dam (Simply Touch) eight years ago and she has proved a successful buy for the stud. A half brother of Galway Bay Easy Touch, Bundi Aki (Askoll Peter Pan x Simply Touch) is jumping on the circuit with Shane Goggins and delivering results.

While on the international circuit, Rich Fellers is campaigning the eight-year-old Aurora’s Diamond (Jack Of Diamonds x Simply Touch). This combination won a 1.35m class at Spruce Meadows back in June. Daddy Cool (Aldatus Z x Simply Touch) has also jumped in international five star classes with Italian rider Roberto Cristofoletti. Burke has a four-year-old half brother from the mare by Silvermines Cruising, whom he stands along with Guinness (KWPN).

Curran and Shannondale Rahona proved triumphant in the TRM/Horseware New Heights Champions Series when they were one of only three double clears in the nine-way jump-off.

Bred by Peter Rice from Monaghan, Shannondale Rahona is an 11 year-old mare by Shannondale Sarco St Ghyvan and out of Cavalier Hill. The Dam, has four off-spring competing on the show jumping and eventing circuit.
