I see that all of the country’s main beef processing companies have increased their wealth according to the latest Sunday Independent Rich List.

The Rich List is made up of the 300 richest Irish people from all sectors. Despite a tough year for the beef farmers in 2014, the List notes strong performance for the processors.

The highest placed beef processor on the entire list is, unsurprisingly, Larry Goodman who came in at number 12. Goodman, who controls the ABP Food Group, saw his reputed wealth jump €50m to an estimated €700m. Goodman celebrated his 60th anniversary in the beef business last December, he also celebrated his 77th birthday last September. As well the beef business, Goodman has shares in the profitable Blackrock Clinic amongst other ventures.

Next in is Slaney Meats supremo, Bert Allen who joins the list at number 29 with an estimated wealth of €455m after a €15m rise last year. Allen is followed by John and Peter Queally in 51st position who have an estimated wealth of €220m after an increase of €10m.

The Keating family, which controls Kepak, is next with an estimated wealth of €160m following an €8m rise in 2014.

Dunbia men Jack and Jim Dobson are 97th on the list with an estimated wealth of €124m, Dan Browne from Dawn Meats is 164th with €79m, Wayne Acheson of the Foyle Food Group comes 198th with €65m while Liffey Meats boss Francis Mallon is a new entrant on the list with an estimated wealth of €45m.

While the beef bosses have all performed well, the wealthiest person from agriculture is Pearse Lyons from Alltech who came 5th with an estimated wealth of €2.2bn up €400m in a year.

Other notable inclusions from the agri sector include Enfer boss Louis Ronan who was 181st with €72m and the Glennon family whose timber business has made them €57m, up €2m in a year.
